NEW DELHI: A day after the government announced a further Rs 40,000 crore allocation for MGNREGA, Congress poked fun at PM Modi by recalling his famous speech in Lok Sabha through which he had referred to as the rural job scheme a “monument of Congress’s failures”.
The celebration also requested Modi to revise the coronavirus aid package deal because it broke up the small print of finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s announcements to argue that the stimulus component barely touched Rs 1.86 lakh crore or zero.91% of GDP.
Rahul Gandhi tweeted a video of Modi’s LS speech on the job scheme with the hashtag ‘ModiUturnOnMGNREGA’. “We thank him for understanding the vision of MGNREGA and for encouraging it,” he stated. Former finance minister P Chidambaram stated, “These words have come back to chew the government. They referred to as it a monumental failure and now they call it the security internet for the poor.”
Addressing a press convention, Chidambaram and celebration spokesperson Supriya Shrinate stated state Congress models would carry out awareness periods to unfold the “reality” of the package deal that the PM pegged at Rs 20 lakh crore.
