London has introduced plans to create the most important car-free zones in Europe. It needs to encourage biking, so that folks can commute whereas also social distancing. A number of European cities are taking comparable measures.

Gil Penalosa of urban reform group eight 80 Cities says lockdown measures in the course of the coronavirus outbreak characterize an "alternative of a lifetime" to make cities more bike-friendly.

But some business groups disagree and lots of metropolis residents have resisted these policies up to now.
